How to Find Exercise Groups in Your Community to Help Keep Fit!

After spending the best part of an entire year locked down at home, as things slowly start to open back up and as normality slowly returns, plenty of people will be looking to socialize and get fit and healthy in the process.

There are of course plenty of ways to get fit, but if the effects of being isolated for so long are getting to you and you want to socialize and meet new people, why not do both?

Exercise groups, boot camps, and various fitness classes are awesome ways to get some much-needed exercise, get out of the house, and meet new and likeminded people at the same time. Finding the right exercise groups local to you however, is not as easy.

To help make your search that little bit easier, here are several tips on how to find exercise groups in your community to help keep fit.

Ask your friends

One of the easiest ways to find exercise groups local to you is to simply ask your friends if they know of any or have any recommendations.

Chances are, they will have attended a gym or fitness class at some point in the past, and if so they can tell you exactly where they went and discuss whether or not they would recommend it to you. Even if they personally have never been, there’s a good chance they’ll know somebody who has so you could always ask them to ask other people for you.

Check in local papers and magazines

Another very effective and very simple way of finding fitness classes in your local community is to simply take the time to look inside local newspapers or magazines.

These local publications will contain news relevant to your community and your local area, and there will almost certainly be a list of adverts inside for various gyms, leisure centers, and fitness classes.

Not only that, but if there are any special offers or vouchers for these fitness classes ,you’ll likely find them inside these publications as well, so you can save yourself a bit of money, and who wouldn’t want that?

Make use of social media

Social media maybe polarizing to some, but the simple fact of the matter is that it is now apart of everyday life and that doesn’t look set to change anytime soon.

Regardless of your feelings of social media, if used correctly, it can be a very useful tool to have at your disposal, especially if you’re looking for specific   are local to you.

Social media pages often have local groups set up for local communities so people living in the area can keep up to date with goings on in the area as well as search  for specific services and products.

If you’re looking for local exercise classes, social media is a great place to look. Even if you can’t find any gyms or fitness classes being advertised locally, you can always ask your friends online if they have any recommendations for you.

 

Contact your local gyms

 

One of the easiest ways of finding local exercise groups and classes is to simply take the time to get in touch with gyms, leisure centers, and fitness facilities which are local to you.

Sometimes local gyms don’t always have groups and classes advertised on their websites or social media pages, in which case it is recommended that you pick up the phone and contact them the old fashioned way by giving them a call.

If there are specific classes you’re looking to take, ask them if they run them or have plans to run them in the future, and if not, do they have any recommendations for places that do.

Speaking to the gym directly is always useful because you can explain your circumstances and talk specifically about what it is you’re looking to get from your fitness journey.

 

Try to be more specific when searching

 If you are searching for exercise groups or fitness classes in your local community, if you do have a clear idea of what types of classes or groups you want to tryout, be sure to include them in your searches and queries.

If for example, you want to find a local boot camp, be sure to search for boot camps in your area, rather than just fitness classes and groups. This will help you to narrow down your search results easier and quicker, and it will save you time in the process.

Search online

 Perhaps one of the easiest ways to locate exercise groups and fitness classes which are local to you is simply to search online

The internet has made searching for things incredibly easy, and if you turn on your location settings on your phone, or simply search for specific terms and phrases online, along with the area you’re searching for, you should find plenty of results.

Once you have a list of potential candidates, head over to their websites or social media pages and try to find out more about the classes and groups they are providing!
